Comelico Superiore

Comelico Superiore ( Ladin Cumelgu d Sora ) is the northernmost municipality in the province of Belluno, region Veneto / Italy. She is one of 39 municipalities of the province with the Ladin minority.

Geography, landscape and culture

The community is surrounded by meadows and coniferous forests in the valley of Padola - Bach ( torrente Padola ) in the Dolomites and is bounded to the west by the rocky massif of Popera group. Geographically and historically it belongs in a broader sense to Cadore, in the strict sense, together with the neighboring communities of Santo Stefano di Cadore, San Nicolò di Comelico, Danta di Cadore and San Pietro di Cadore, Val Comelico, one for both the summer and for the Winter tourism popular area.

Administratively, these are the five municipalities of the Val Comelico Sappada the Comunità montana Comèlico e Sappada.

The northern boundary of the municipality is the Kreuzberg Pass, which also constitutes the border with the autonomous province of South Tyrol.

Districts

The municipality is divided into four towns / factions ( frazioni ); Not Here - a nucleus, which with the same name as the municipality, there is - in contrast to most Italian municipalities.

  • Candide, where the municipality is located, is the oldest place ( mentioned in 1186 ).
  • Casamazzagno is located on the hillside above Candide at Monte Spina with steep narrow streets. From the square of the Baroque church of San Leonardo ( 16th century ) opens up a wide panorama in the municipal area.
  • Dosoledo 1857 and 1874 has lost much of its historic structure due to two fires; some reconstructions in a traditional setting, above the village of Cadore convey but an impression of the former townscape.
  • Padola was also entirely renovated after a fire (1845 ) and is now an urban embossed tourist center. The Museo della Cultura del Alpina Comèlico gives an historical overview of the community.

  • The borgata Sega Digon came through a stop of the Liberation Committee Südtirol ( BAS) on 25 June 1967 in the headlines. At the Cima Vallona a power pole was blown up; the coming to Anschlagsort Alpini and Carabinieri found themselves in a laid from the BAS minefield. Of the five military only one survived.
  • Sopalù is a borgata above Candide.
  • The località Valgrande is a spa due to a sulfur source.
