Allophylus aldabricus

Allophylus aldabricus is a species of the subfamily Sapindoideae within the family of Soapberry. It is endemic to the Aldabra group.

Features

Allophylus aldabricus is a shrub or small tree that reaches a height of 4 m. He has threefold obovate leaves, with the largest up to 7 cm long. The spike-like inflorescence is sessile, tiny flowers. The bald egg-shaped orange - red fruits are up to 6 mm long.

Occurrence and habitat

Allophylus aldabricus happens to the members of the Aldabra group Aldabra atolls and Cosmoledo as well as on the islands Assomption and Astove. The type is a component of the mixed bushveld inland.

Status

Due to the very small distribution area Allophylus aldabricus is "endangered" by the IUCN in the categories ( vulnerable ) classified.
