Organization

The Triathlon EDF Alpe d' Huez was founded in 2006 by the Long Distance Triathlon World Champion Cyrille Neveu. [A 1] The short and long distance triathlon has since been next to the Embrunman the most famous non- ITU and non- FFTRI - Apply in France.

Route

The triathlon will be held in a long and a short distance variant. Both begin with a swim in the lake Lac du Verney, the bike course ends with a Tour de France- rise in the highest category in the ski resort of Alpe d' Huez with its 21 legendary 1120 meters rising sweeping. On long- distance is 2.2 km swimming, 115 km cycling to complete and 22 km running (on the short distance: 1,2 km / 30 km / 7 miles). The 115 km long cycling route leads from Lac du Verney (770 m) above Sechilienne (385 m), Alpe du Grand Serre ( 1375 m ), Valbonnais (790 m), the Col d' Ornon ( 1367 m ), Le Bourg -d ' Oisans (730 m) to Alpe d' Huez (1850 m). The course consists of three rounds.

Sporadically also a sprint triathlon was held which led to Vaujany.

In addition, a three-part Duathlon takes place, 5 km run from Le Bourg d'Oisans, a 15 km long mountain rides on climb to Alpe d' Huez and 2.5 km run in 2000 meters altitude.

Participant

In 2009, 671 athletes took part in the long distance (516 finishers ) and 839 to the short distance ( 749 finishers ), 62 percent of the participants were French. In 2010, two weeks before the triathlon 943 participants for long- distance triathlon and 1,150 reported for the short distance.

Most Huez winners are international professional triathletes, so won on the long distance in 2007 and 2008, the British Chrissie Wellington and in 2009 the Swiss Nicola Spirig. On the short-distance French could often win gold: Delphine Pelletier, Hervé Faure, Bertrand Billard, Frédéric Belaubre and Charlotte Morel.

Charlotte Morel, U23 National Champion in 2009 and 2010, won the 2007 Sprint and 2008 the sprint and short triathlon. In 2009, she came in an evasive maneuver to fall and in 2010 she could not participate in the triathlon after the heights training camp in Alpe d' Huez. In 2012 she won again.
