Alt Penedès

The comarca of Alt Penedès is located in the province of Barcelona, ​​the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). Alt Penedès was 1936, when the historical region of Penedès was divided. The community association has an area of ​​559.40 km ² and 89,712 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is located in the center of the southern part of Catalonia, it is bordered on the north by the Anoia comarca, on the east by the Baix Llobregat, in the south of Garraf and in the east on Baix Penedès and Alt Camp. Together with the Comarcas Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Garraf, Maresme, Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental is the region's territory Àmbit Metropolità de Barcelona.

Alt Penedès is located in a depression off the coast of the Mediterranean, the level of the Penedès, which flows through the rivers Anoia and Foix. In the south of the community association is limited by the low mountains of the Garraf ( Nature Park ). To the north are the hills of the Vorküstengebirge.

Economy

The fertile plains of the Penedès is an important wine -growing region. In the cavas of Sant Sadurní d' Anoia over 90 % of the sparkling wine of Spain are produced.
