Alton Lennon

Alton Asa Lennon ( born August 17, 1906 in Wilmington, North Carolina, † December 28, 1986 ibid ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of North Carolina in both chambers of Congress.

Alton Lennon attended the public schools of his home and took his degree in 1929 at Wake Forest College in Winston- Salem. He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1929 and commenced practice as a lawyer in Wilmington. From 1934 to 1942 he served as a judge at the Court of New Hanover County.

His first political office held Lennon from 1947 to 1951 as a member of the Senate of North Carolina. On 10 July 1953 he was appointed by Governor William B. Umstead to succeed the late U.S. Senator Willis Smith. He remained until November 28, 1954 in Washington, trying unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the election official who went to W. Kerr Scott.

As a result, Lennon worked again as a lawyer. In 1956 he competed in the seventh congressional district of North Carolina successfully to the election to the House of Representatives of the United States, in which he moved in on January 3, 1957. He was eight confirmed and practiced his mandate from, to January 3, 1973 before he opted not to run again. Lennon returned to Wilmington, where he died in 1986 and was also buried.
