Aluminiumacetate

Aluminiumacetate are the aluminum salts of acetic acid, which are present as colorless solids and are distinguished by their three derivatives:

  • The neutral aluminum triacetate, Al ( OOCCH3 ) 3
  • The basic Aluminiumdiacetat, Hoal ( OOCCH3 ) 2 and
  • The basic Aluminiummonoacetat, (HO) 2AlOOCCH3

Has practical significance essentially only Aluminiumdiacetat, which is also known as acetic acid clay. It is used in folk medicine and for the water- repellent impregnation of cotton fabrics.

Synthesis

Bring to aluminum sulfate in a barium solution, we obtain the triacetate. Another possible is by contacting aluminum hydroxide, acetic anhydride and glacial acetic acid in aqueous solution, which initially form the basic Aluminiumacetate. The diacetate can be represented directly by bringing sodium aluminate with acetic acid to the reaction.
