The Alytus ( German district Alitten ) is one of the ten administrative districts, which form the top step of the Lithuanian authorities. He anticipates the historical region Dzūkija. The district is densely forested and is one of the most sparsely populated regions of the country. In this region there is the National Park Dzūkija.
