Amanda Filipacchi

Amanda Filipacchi (born 1967 in Paris) is an American writer known for her novels full of controversy and their peculiar sense of humor. Her works gained critical acclaim in the U.S. and worldwide. They have since been translated into 13 languages.

Career

Filipacchi, the daughter of the publisher Daniel Filipacchi, was born in Paris. Filipacchi began writing at the age of 13 years. At 17, she moved to New York. She attended Hamilton College in upstate New York and graduated early with a Bachelor of Arts in Fiction.

It was recorded at Columbia University 1990 MFA program ( Master of Fine Arts ). Shortly thereafter, she began to her novel Naked men (Nude Men) to work, who also served later as a thesis. She took a course with Alice Quinn, the former editor of fiction and poetry at the New Yorker magazine. This recommended Filipacchi Melanie Jackson as literary agent.

Filipacchi has since written two more novels: Vapor (1999) and Love Creeps (2005), which in turn were well received by the critics and have also been translated into several languages.

Her work met with approval not only from the critics but also among the authors as Bret Easton Ellis, Tama Janowitz, Edmund White, Dale Peck, Alain de Botton, Kathryn Harrison and the French director Louis Malle.

Critics called Filipacchis works sometimes as " terribly funny "; the writer himself was described as a " post- feminist wonderful talent ." The New York Times called it a "beautiful comedienne of Surrealism ". In addition, we compared their novels with those of John Irving, Vladimir Nabokov, Muriel Spark, John Fante, Angela Carter, Lewis Carroll, Woody Allen and Ann Beattie. Love Creeps is now one of the top 25 novels of the year when appearing in New York The Village Voice.

To celebrate the release of the Dutch translation of Love Creeps in the late summer of 2004 he was invited to Filipacchi literary festival Saint Amour, Belgium, a. She was the sole representative of the United States during the 10 - day festival. Her first novel, Naked men found in Belgium a great response.

She currently lives in New York City.
