Amatán is a municipality in the north of the Mexican state of Chiapas. The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. The municipality has about 21,000 inhabitants and an area of 317 km ². Administrative seat and largest town is the same Amatán.

The name comes from the Nahuatl Amatán and mean square of the Code. The municipality borders the Municipalities Amatán Huitiupan, Pueblo Nuevo Solistahuacán, Ixhuatán, Solosuchiapa, and Ixtapangajoya as well as to the state of Tabasco.
