The American Wirehair American or wire haired cat is a domestic cat breed that originated in New York. Since there are very few breeders of this breed, it is very rare even in America, practically not to be found in Europe.

History

The first American Wirehair in 1966 in a litter of a cat farm in Verona, New York discovered. The cat was red with white and had a peculiarly wiry fur. A resident at the place Rex cats breeder took him, gave him the name of Council Rock Farm Adam of Hi- Fi and started with a litter sister ( Tip- Toe of Hi- Fi) a breeding program.

From this mating came from repeatedly made ​​wire- haired offspring, many of which were sold to interested breeders. The population grew and cats were exported to Canada and Germany. The cats of this breed were indeed registered since 1967, recorded in the stud book, but only in 1978 was the American Wirehair recognition.
