Amphiprostyle

A amphiprostyle ( Greek, plural Amphiprostyloi ) is one of the floor plans of the Greek temple.

The amphiprostyle, an evolution of the prostyle, consists of the cella and column positions on the front and back of the temple ( cf. Vitruvius III 2, 4). The cella may have assistants, pronaos and opisthodomos can be formed. Depending on which one speaks of amphiprostylem temple in antis or amphiprostyle double anta temple.

Known examples of the amphiprostyle are the temple of the Ilissus in Athens, of Athena Nike temple on the Acropolis in Athens, the temple of Athena from Lindos and the Temple of Apollo on Delos III.
