Amsterdam Centraal is the main railway station of the Dutch capital Amsterdam. It connects Amsterdam with the major European cities Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Berlin, Cologne, Copenhagen, Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Basel and Zurich. As one of the most important railway stations in the Netherlands, the Amsterdam Central Station has connections with the European long-distance traffic and thus stop the high-speed train Thalys and ICE, as well as for the European City Night Line night train. Architecture

1875 got the architect PJH Cuypers and AL van Gendt, the engineer commissioned to prepare a design for the reception building. The building is made of red brick with decorations made of natural stone and the architectural style was influenced by the Dutch Renaissance. The slightly projecting main entrance became aware of Cuypers as a " city gate " ( Stadspoort ) designed with two towers, which the travelers get the impression, through to enter the "gate " of the city. The architect Cuypers had indeed designed the station, but the two large tubular -style platform halls come from a planning of the railway engineer LJ Eijmer. The completion of the first hall on the city side was made in 1889, the narrower and longer hall on the IJ- side ( towards the waters ) was completed in 1922. History
