Anahim Lake
Anahim Lake is a municipality in the province of British Columbia in western Canada. She counted the Canada Census 2011 or 83 inhabitants, a total living in the vicinity of the place, however, about 1500 people. Anahim Lake is located in the Cariboo Regional District on the Interior Plateau, about 200 kilometers west of the district capital of Williams Lake.
The place belongs to the Chilcotin District and is the administrative seat of Ulkatcho First Nation, one Ureinwohnerstamms, which belongs to the Dakelh and about half the population of the environment provides. Same here also members of the neighboring Tsilhqot'in live.
Every year in July, the Anahim Lake Rodeo held in place.
History
Anahim Lake is located on the southern shores of this lake, which was first mentioned in 1861 as Lake Anawhim of a tribal leader of the Tsilhqot'in and mapped for the first time a year later. The town was originally settled only by the Tsilhqot'in, but gave the Dakelh in the 1940s and 1950s, their remote settlements within largely to draw also to Anahim Lake.
The Canada Post opened on 1 September 1939 in Anahim Lake, the first post office of the place. In 1982, the settlement officially gained the status of a municipality ( community ).
The main economic activity of the village is the forest today. So operates among others, the Ulkatcho First Nation since 1995 a sawmill near the settlement.
Traffic
Anahim Lake is located on British Columbia Highway 20, which runs from Williams Lake to Bella Coola in the west of the province. This is the distance to Williams Lake with almost 320 kilometers of road more than twice as long as the road to Bella Coola, located about 135 kilometers away.
Located just off Highway is the regional Anahim Lake Airport are offered from which flights to Vancouver, Victoria and Bella Coola. In addition, it is also used by some charter and private aircraft.
