Andreas Herzog ( born September 10, 1968 in Vienna ) is a retired Austrian football player and current assistant coach of the national football team of the United States.

Career as a player

Duke began his career at SK Rapid Vienna, but was borrowed for half a year to Vienna, before he again moved back to SK Rapid Wien and twice champion (1987 and 1988) and Cup Winners (1987). Overall, he graduated at that time but only a few games. It was not until 1988 he often came in the first team to use and gradually matured to playmaker.

In 1992 he moved to the German Bundesliga and was in his first season at Werder Bremen German champion and 1994 Cup Winners' Cup. Due to its performance of the FC Bayern Munich became aware of Duke and this changed together with his mentor and coach Otto Rehhagel in the 1995/96 season for Bayern Munich. Despite the victory in the UEFA Cup, the season did not go for him but as desired and he returned to Bremen, where he was for the second time Cup winner in 1999. Career with the OFB

With the Austrian national team, he was qualified for the FIFA World Cup 1990 in Italy and 1998 in France. His debut in the national team he celebrated under coach Josef " Pepi " Hickersberger on April 6, 1988 at the international match against Greece ( Full 2:2 ). With 103 international appearances, in which he scored 26 goals, he is an Austrian 's most capped player. Many memories remained especially his goal on 6 September 1997 1-0 against Sweden - in the 76th minute he met before 48,000 fans at the sold-out Ernst Happel Stadium from 20 meters to the left into the top corner, defeating Sweden keeper Thomas Ravelli. This victory was one of the most important building blocks for the group winning the Austrian national team in the World Cup qualifiers in 1998. Too, in the last game of qualifying for the 2002 World Cup he steered with a free-kick in stoppage time in Israel to a 1-1 draw probably the most important results at, by which Austria qualified for the play-offs at least against Turkey. His last international match Duke graduated on 30 April 2003 in Glasgow against Scotland, as Austria won 2-0.

2005 Duke became the OFB ambassador for UEFA EURO 2008. His duties were mainly targeted advertisements for selected OFB - sponsors and for the UEFA EURO 2008, match observations at home and abroad in cooperation with the OFB coaching staff and the team leader as well as advice of youth players.

After team boss Hans Krankl had resigned from his position as team manager in September 2005, Duke took over in the last two matches in the qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, the position of team manager and supervised by Willibald Ruttensteiner and Slavko Kovacic the OFB selection.

From January 2006 to June 2008 was Andreas Herzog personal assistant coach Josef Hickersberger, who announced his resignation on 23 June 2008. From August 2008 he was until March 2, 2009 Ján Kocian assistant coach of the Austrian national team Karel Brückner.

In March 2009 he was appointed as the new team manager of the sub -21 in his home country.

Assistant coach the U.S. national team

On December 17, 2011 it was announced that Duke has asked for immediate termination of his contract, since he was present an offer as an assistant coach of the national football team of the United States. This concern came to the OFB. Duke is currently assistant coach Jürgen Klinsmann and responsible as a scout for the American players in the European leagues.

Andreas Herzog lives in width ford near Vienna. He is married and has two sons.
