Andrei Marga

Andrei Marga ( May 22nd, 1946 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian philosopher, political theorist, politician and university professor. Marga was rector of the Babeş -Bolyai University of Cluj (1993-2004), Minister of Education (1997-2000) and in 2012 briefly Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania in the first cabinet Ponta.

Career

Andrei Marga studied Philosophy at the Babeş -Bolyai University of Cluj. Even as a student he was a member of the Romanian Communist Party. In 1975, he received a DAAD scholarship and research at the Universities of Freiburg, Bielefeld and Frankfurt for his doctorate in philosophy. Between 1984 and 1990 he had the pleasure of several study trips at the universities of Erlangen, Münster and Frankfurt am Main.

Scientist

Andrei Marga is the author of several books in the fields of contemporary philosophy, political philosophy, philosophy of religion, history of philosophy. His major works deal with the works of Marcuse and Habermas, both members of the Frankfurt School. From 1993 to 2004, and between 2008 and 2012, he led the Babeş -Bolyai University in Cluj.

Politician

From 1997 to 2000, Marga education minister in the cabinets Ciorbea, Vasile and Isarescu by the Christian Democratic National Peasant Party (Romanian Partidul Naţional Ţărănesc Crestin Democrat PNTCD ). After the electoral defeat of the PNTCD in 2000, he was Chairman of the PNTCD temporarily, but then moved to the National Liberal Party (Romanian Partidul Naţional Liberal ).

From May 7 to August 6 of 2012 was Marga Foreign Minister of Romania in the first cabinet Ponta. Thereafter, he was appointed director of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR ), but has already appeared back in June 2013 by the Office.
