Andrzej Artur Zamoyski

Andrzej Artur Zamoyski ( born April 2, 1800 Vienna, † October 29, 1874 in Kraków ) was a Polish magnate and politician of the division of time.

Life

He came from the magnate family of the Zamoyski and was educated in Paris, Geneva and Edinburgh. 1823 he was Director of the Department of Agriculture and Commerce of the Government of the Kingdom of Poland. During the November Uprising of 1830/31 he was sent by the government of the insurgents to Vienna, to campaign for support.

After the defeat of the rebels, he retired to his estates and led to his lands a number of innovations. He also published a magazine on economic issues and campaigned for the introduction of steam navigation on the Vistula one. He founded the port Czerniaków in Warsaw itself a shipyard for the construction of river ships.

In 1858 he was the founder of the agrarian society and was in the following years, its president. This organization developed under his leadership to represent the more moderate aristocratic and conservative political forces in Congress Poland. She had more than 4,000 members in 77 districts.
