Angelika Kirchschlager

Angelika Kirschschlager (* November 24, 1965 in Salzburg) is an Austrian singer (mezzo- soprano). They can be heard on many opera stages of the world, but also acts as an interpreter of songs and oratorios.

Life and artistic work

Angelika Kirschschlager studied percussion and piano at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 1984 she moved to the Vienna Academy of Music, where she studied singing, among other things, Gerhard Kahry and Walter Berry. First engagements have taken her to the Vienna Chamber Opera and - in the final year of her singing studies - at the Graz Opera.

In 1991, she won three placings at the Vienna Belvedere Singing Competition. She became a member of the Vienna State Opera in 1993. With the role of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro debuts lyric mezzo-soprano.

In 2002 she sang the title role in the premiere of Sophie 's Choice by British composer Nicholas Maw at the Royal Opera House in London. At the Salzburg Festival, she made ​​her debut in 2003 in a new production of The Tales of Hoffmann, and a year later sang Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier. In 2006, she worked at the Salzburg Easter Festival with their manager Sir Simon Rattle, the Melisande in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande.
