Angelo Sala

Angelo Sala (* 1576 in Vicenza; ? † October 2, 1637 in Biitzow ) was a physician and scientist. Angelo Sala is also known by his Latin name Angelus Sala.

Life

Sala is the son of a weaver Bernardino Sala, who had fled for religious reasons with his family to Geneva.

There Sala studied medicine for several years. He made early on talked about, because he - like the famous Paracelsus - demanded fundamental reforms in medicine. Salas medical career as a physician led him to Dresden ( 1602), Sondrio (1604 ), Nuremberg ( 1606 ), Frauenfeld ( 1607) and again Geneva ( 1609).

The following year, 1610 Sala acted as a field doctor Count John of Nassau.

Between 1612 and 1617 he worked in The Hague. Subsequently, he was appointed as a physician to the Count Anton Günther von Oldenburg. This appointed Sala also the overseer on Pharmacies in the country Oldenburg.

1620 went as Chymiater Sala to Hamburg. Landgrave Moritz of Hesse- Kassel had a high regard Sala and he recommended him as personal physician to the Duke Johann Albrecht II of Mecklenburg- Güstrow. This called Sala in 1625 at the University of Rostock for a professorship of medicine. There Sala taught until 1628; inter alia, Johann Rist was his student here.

End of May 1628 accompanied Sala Duke Johann Albrecht II into exile in Anhalt Bernburg (Saale ). As at June 26, 1628 brought back Sala Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt- Köthen Italian newspapers and a book, he was accepted by the latter in the Fruitbearing society. At the same time Duke Johann Albrecht II of Mecklenburg- Güstrow and Otto von Preen on this day were included in the society.

The prince gave Sala the company name of the Soothing and exchange the pain. As an emblem of Sala was intended for the Kamillenblüt . In Köthener society book, Salas entry found under No. 160

In the summer of 1629 Sala Duke accompanied his exile in Lübeck. There Sala was the duke's personal physician until his death in 1636. Thereafter Sala was in the same position at the son of the Duke, Duke Gustav Adolf of Mecklenburg- Güstrow active.

In Biitzow Angelo Sala died at the age of 61 years on October 2, 1637th

Angelo Sala published 19 scientific works in German, French, Italian and Latin. In these works he tried by practical experimental basis to delineate the chemistry of Claudius Galen. In his later works he also took of Paracelsus distance. Sala considered the founder of sugar chemistry.

Awards and Honors

The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg annually awards the day of chemistry to students of North German schools the Angelus Sala - price. With this award, students will be awarded, who achieved outstanding academic performance in 10th grade in chemistry.
