Anna Maria of Brandenburg-Ansbach

Anna Maria of Brandenburg- Ansbach ( born December 28, 1526 Jägerndorf, † May 20 1589 in Nürtingen ) was a Princess of Brandenburg -Ansbach and by marriage Duchess of Württemberg.

Life

Anna Maria was the eldest daughter of the Margrave George of Brandenburg -Ansbach (1484-1543) from his second marriage with Hedwig (1508-1531), daughter of Duke Charles I of Münsterberg. Anna Maria was brought up in the Lutheran faith.

They married on February 24, 1544 in Ansbach later to become the Duke Christoph of Württemberg ( 1515-1568 ). The marriage had come to the mediation of the father of Christopher, Duke Ulrich of Württemberg about. The marriage to the Protestant consolidated Christopher denominational position. Anna Maria had a thrifty and economical. She was responsible to manage the Hofapotheke, from which it supplied those in need free of charge.

After her husband's death she fell into depression and spent her 20-year period of widowhood in almost mental derangement on her widow's residence Nürtinger the castle. As a 45 -year-old she fell in love with the half as old Landgrave George of Hesse-Darmstadt, who later became her son was. Finally, it was found to be mentally ill under guard. She was buried in the collegiate church of St. George in Tübingen.
