Annie Whitehead

Annie Whitehead ( * July 16, 1955 in Oldham, England) is a British Jazzposaunistin.

Life and work

Whitehead played in brass bands while at school and from 1969 in local dance bands. In 1971 she joined the All Girls Band of Ivy Benson, where she remained for two years. Then she moved for a while to Jersey. In 1979 she formed her own band to play ska. In 1981 she went to London, where he was active in various genres. She has worked with include Joan Armatrading, Chris Rea, Bill Wyman, Elvis Costello, Carlene Carter, Paul Weller, Jerry Dammers, Amazulu, The Communards, Jah Wobble and Bananarama. In 1983 she went with the Brotherhood of Breath Chris McGregor Africa tour and toured with Fun Boy Three by the United States. At the same time, she worked with Larry Stabbins at Working Week 1984 and founded her own band, with which she toured internationally in the coming years. But Whitehead also played with District Six and John Stevens. She founded the only consisting of 12 female musicians Vortex Foundation band (named after the defunct Vortex Jazz Club in North London ), which first appeared on the 2002 London Jazz Festival and since then has sometimes occurred and also recorded.
