Antipope Sylvester IV

New Year's Eve IV, actually Maginulf was antipope during the years 1105-1111.

The followers of the Roman nobility raised Maginulf 1105, Archpriest of St. Angelo, Antipope ( against the lawful Pope Paschal II ) after the previous anti-popes Theodoricus and Albertus had been turned off by the legitimate Pope Paschal II. On November 18, 1105 Maginulf was consecrated in the Lateran basilica and as a New Year's Eve enthroned IV.

When is returned outside Rome residing Paschal II broke out fierce battles, in which the first party of Sylvester kept the upper hand. However, in November 1105 New Year's Eve had to flee from Rome and resided thereon in Osimo. Beginning in 1111, he was brought by Emperor Henry V as leverage against the Pope in his camp near Rome. However, he lost the imperial support, as Henry V had achieved its objectives. On 12 or April 13, 1111 New Year's Eve formally declared renunciation of the papacy and made the Pope obedient.
