Antonio Alfonseca

Antonio Alfonseca ( born April 16, 1972 in La Romana, Dominican Republic ) is a domikanischer baseball player. He played from 1997 to 2007 in the major leagues as a relief pitcher for the Florida Marlins, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies. He won with the Marlins 1997 World Series and in 2000 the title of the Best Relief Pitchers ( " MLB Relief Man of the Year "). He currently plays for the Bridgeport Bluefish, a professional team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

Alfonseca has been nicknamed " El Pulpo " ( dt: the octopus ) because he has six fingers on his hands due to polydactyly. From baseball view his throwing hand is neither an advantage nor a disadvantage because of the supernumerary little finger does not touch the ball when throwing. Alfonseca, is common in the family polydactyly, wearing his twelve fingers with pride, considering them as a family symbol.
