Antonio Vilaplana Molina

Antonio Vilaplana Molina ( born February 28, 1926 in Alcoy, Spain, † January 14, 2010 in Valencia, Spain) was bishop of Leon in Spain.

Life

Antonio Molina Vilaplana studied at the seminary in Valencia and received on 18 December 1949, the ordination. At the Angelicum in Rome, he received his doctorate. He taught at the seminary of Valencia from 1954 to 1976, and was from 1963 to 1971 professor at the Faculty of Civil Law at the University of Valencia and from 1969 to 1976 at the Theological Faculty of San Vicente Ferrer of Valencia ( Facultad de Teología San Vicente Ferrer in Valencia ). He was a canon of the Cathedral of Valencia.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1976 to the Bishop of Plasencia. He received his episcopal consecration on 31 October 1976, the Archbishop of Valencia, José María García Lahiguera; Co-consecrators were Manuel Llopis Ivorra, Bishop of Coria, and Doroteo Fernández y Fernández, Bishop of Badajoz.

1987 Vilaplana Molina was appointed by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of León and incardinated on March 15, 1987 in his office. On 19 March 2002 its age-related retirement request was granted.

Antonio Vilaplana was advisor to the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas and of Catholic Action. In the Spanish Episcopal Conference, he was a member of the Episcopal Commissions for the Doctrine of the Faith, interfaith relations, education and catechesis, migration and missions. He was president of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith and the cultural heritage.

He was an honorary citizen of Leon, winner of the Spanish Military Order of Merit and member of the Royal Academy Real Academia de doctores de España.

Bishop Molina was buried in the Cathedral of León.
