Apostolic Vicariate of Tripoli

The Apostolic Vicariate of Tripoli (Latin: apostolicus Vicariatus Tripolitanus ) is located in Libya Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicariate with its headquarters in Tripoli.

History

Pope Urban VIII founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Tripoli from 1630 cession of territory of the Diocese of Las Palmas ( Ecclesiastical Province of Valencia). In 1894 it was raised to the Vicariate Apostolic of Libya.

On February 3, 1927, lost part of its territory to the Apostolic Vicariate of Cyrenaica and simultaneously adopted the name, Apostolic Vicariate Tripolitana on. On 22 June 1939, lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture of Misrata while it received the current name.
