Arcens

Arcens is a commune with 379 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in Ardèche, in the Rhône -Alpes. The inhabitants are called Arcensois and Arcensoises.

Geography

The municipality is located in the middle of Boutières massif, a part of the Cévennes Mountains, surrounded by wooded hills. The village lies on the route from Mont Gerbier -de- Jonc the source of the Loire River at Mont Mézenc and is part of the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche. The nearest major town is in Aubenas 32 ​​kilometers to the southeast. Also, the flow Eysse crosses the municipality. The border with the Auvergne region and the department of Haute- Loire is only a few meters.

History

The old church in the village was first mentioned in the 12th century and belonged to the diocese of Le Puy -en -Velay. The village itself first appears in the title deed of the Earl of Aiguillon in the 14th century, the village was well into the 18th century.

Culture and sights

The town is famous for the Château d' Arcens or Laurent Château from the 14th century. It is a former festival house, which until the 19th century was of 17 in possession of the same family Laurent.
