Aref Tayfour

Arif Taifur (* 1945 in the province of As- Sulaymaniyah ) is an Iraqi politician, currently Deputy President of the Parliament of Iraq. He is a Kurd.

Arif Taifur studied at the University of Baghdad. In 1974, he fled to Iran after the Iraqi Ba'ath regime had put down a Kurdish revolt. In 1976, he joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party ( KDP) and returned back to Iraq to build a provisional leadership of the KDP there. Since then, he is a key figure in this traditionalist, now led by Masoud Barzani party whose goal is an autonomous Kurdistan.

After the first free elections in Iraq since Saddam Hussein's fall, the January 30, take place in 2005 and in which the Kurdish party alliance of the KDP and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK ), the Democratic Patriotic Alliance of Kurdistan, with 25.7% of votes second strongest was elected the new Iraqi National Assembly Arif Taifur Deputy to the Sunni parliamentary speaker Hadschim al - Hasani.
