Argentine Primera División

The Primera División ( Spanish for " premier league " ) is the highest Argentine Football League. It exists since 1985 as a successor to the League Argentina de Fútbol ( 1931-1966 ) and the Torneo Metropolitano ( 1967-1985 ) and operated by the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino (AFA ) and organized. Currently playing 20 clubs in the league. In the Argentine fans the league has a special significance, since the championship for a long time was the only national title, which a club can win. There is only since 2011 a national cup competition ( Copa Argentina ) and no super or League Cup.

The Argentine league is a leader in South America with the Brazilian league. This is especially evident on the international success of the clubs. So winning Argentine clubs so far with 22 titles (as of 2011 ) the most important international competition for the South American club teams, the Copa Libertadores.

Mode
