Argna biplicata

Argna biplicata is a living on the land snail from the family of lung Argnidae.

Features

The housing is 4 to 4.5 mm high and 1.5 to 1.7 mm wide and thick. It is long - cylindrical with 8-9 weakly convex, slowly increasing whorls. It tapers towards the blunt apex be hardly. The umbilicus is very narrow. The mouth is lenticular relatively small and in the winding axis. The mouth edge is turned up wide and sharp-edged, sometimes somewhat thickened. In the mouth protrude four main teeth into: a columellar and a Paritalzahn and two unequal length, inwardly converging Palatalzähne. Geographical occurrence, habitat and behavior

The species occurs very locally in the Alpes Maritimes (France), northern Spain (Valencia ), Liguria (Italy ), in the North Apennines, and in the Italian and Austrian Southern Alps before. A small occurrence in Salzburg is the only occurrence north of the Alps. Further isolated occurrences there are in Puglia (Province of Cosenza) and in Basilicata ( Potenza Prov. ). The subspecies Argna biplicata ulterior Klemm, 1962 occurs in Greece.

Argna biplicata prefers moist and protected habitats, as in Bodenmulm, under leaf litter and moss, as well as wood in crevices and under rock debris. Thus, the species is very hidden and can only be found very difficult to live. It occurs between 500 and 1500 m above sea level before. Due to the very secretive lifestyle, very little is known about the biology of the species.

System

The type locality for the species is located in the south of France. The populations in South Tyrol, Carinthia, Styria and Salzburg are, however, distinguished as Argna biplicata excessiva ( Gredler, 1856). Another subspecies is Argna biplicata ulterior Klemm, 1962 in Greece.

Threats and conservation

The species is listed on the Red List of the molluscs Carinthia is out there in the category of R, ie it is a rare species
