Arnold Duckwitz

Arnold Duck joke ( born January 27, 1802 in Bremen, † March 19, 1881 in Bremen) was a businessman and senator as Mayor of the Hanseatic city of Bremen. As Hanseatic statesman he was from 1848 to 1849 Minister of Trade and Navy in the Provisional Government of the German Confederation.

Life

Businessman and Senator

Duck joke grew up in Bremen and completed a commercial apprenticeship. As a merchant, he spent several years in England and the Netherlands, where he imported animal skins from North America. In 1829 he settled in his native city, where he earned merits particular by improving the Weser shipping and introduction of steam navigation. He was with John Rösing spokesman of the liberal merchants in Bremen, marked by the July Revolution of 1830.

In 1837 he joined with the writing of the ratio of the free Hanseatic City of Bremen with the German Zollverein (Bremen ) for the German customs union. He was elected in 1840 in the College of parent people of the merchant ( head of the merchants ).
