Art Baron

Art Baron ( born January 5, 1950 in Bridgeport, Connecticut ) is an American jazz trombonist. He also plays didgeridoo, alto and bass flute and tuba.

Life and work

Art Baron studied at the Berklee College of Music. In August 1973 he was at the age of 23 years a member of the Duke Ellington band in the last year, as Ellington was still directing the band. He led in the 1980s, a septet called The Duke 's Men, consisting of former members of the Duke Ellington band.

As part of the Charles Mingus project Weird Nightmare: Meditations on Mingus, he worked in 1992 with Bill Frisell, Greg Cohen, Don Alias ​​and Don Byron together. Throughout his career took Baron plates with Buddy Rich, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Illinois Jacquet, Roswell Rudd, Mel Tormé, Charlie Musselwhite, Andy Harlow, Fontella Bass, Sam Rivers, Glen Velez, John Tchicai, Wilber Morris, Alan Silva, George Gruntz, Joey DeFrancesco, Bobby Watson, Elliott Sharp, Annea Lockwood, Matt Glaser and Cyro Baptista. Played in the 1990s in the formation Kamikaze Ground Crew by Gina Leishman.

Art Baron lives in New York City. He is not to be confused with the saxophonist and flutist Arthur Barron.
