Arthur Jensen (actor)

Arthur Jensen ( born November 9, 1897 in Copenhagen, † November 28, 1981 ) was a Danish actor.

Life

Jensen, son of a restaurant owner, first learned the tailor's trade. From 1920 to 1923 he attended the Theatre School of Kongelige Teater and had his debut appearance barselstue at this theater in 1923 in a production of Hans Christian Andersen's Den nye. In the 1930s he was engaged at Det Ny Teater and there had great success in a production of the Western Front. In addition to his work as a character actor, he was also in demand as a comedian and revue performer; among other things, he entered in 1930 in the last revue at the Copenhagen Scala ( punctum - finals) and toured in the 1940s and 1950s with the Cirkusrevyen.

Since 1925, he was also seen in the cinema, initially in four Pat & Patachon silent film comedies by Lau Lauritzen sr. This was followed by roles in movies such as Danish directors Holger -Madsen, Jon Iversen (1889-1964), George Schnéevoigt (1893-1961) and Annelise Reenberg ( 1919-1994 ). In the 1930s, he appeared in more than a dozen films, including many of Alice O'Fredericks ( 1899-1968 ) and Lau Lauritzen Jr. staged, together with Ib Schønberg ( 1902-1955 ) as a comic duo. In the 1960s and 1970s, he played supporting roles in quirky comedy series by Sven Methling, John Hilbard and Werner Hedman. National and international fame he eventually owed ​​his collaboration with the comedy specialist Erik Balling: both his appearances in five Olsen Gang movies as well as his memorable characters in two television series of Balling (he played the janitor Meyer in all 84 episodes of the series Oh, these tenants and Rudolf Schwann in the first 12 episodes of Matador ) ensured particularly in Denmark for a lasting popularity Jensen.

His tomb is located on the Vestre Kirkegård in Copenhagen.
