Arto Tunçboyacıyan

Arto Tuncboyaciyan (Armenian Արտո Թունջբոյաջյան; * August 4, 1957 in Galata (Istanbul), Turkey) is a Turkish musician. He is a member of the Armenian minority in Turkey.

Life

His career began at the age of eleven Tuncboyaciyan years, when he with his brother played traditional music and recorded and increasingly established as a professional studio and session musicians in Europe and Turkey. Characteristic is the use of pots as a percussion instrument and the inclusion of Armenian influenced vocal passages in the drumming.

1981 moved Tuncboyaciyan in the United States. Since then, he occurs worldwide as a sideman ( inter alia by Chet Baker, Joe Zawinul, Don Cherry and Al Di Meola ), but also as a solo musician. 1985 his first two solo albums were released on the Dutch label Keytone: Virgin Country and Main Root. In 1991 he formed with Marc Johnson and Ben Monder the group Right Brain Patrol, whose potential could not be fully realized in his view.

Tuncboyaciyan took on the plates Tears of Dignity and Onno together with the Armenian oud player Ara Dinkjian. Onno is the tribute to his brother Onno Ohannes Tuncboyaciyan ( Onno Tunç ), which in a plane crash was killed in 1996. The composer and arranger Onno Tunç is considered one of the biggest influences on Tuncboyaciyan, both musically and personally.

Just as Ara Dinkjian and poor Donelian Tuncboyaciyan from 1989 to 2000 member of the group Night Ark and took several albums with them on ( Picture, Moments, Wonderland and Petals On Your Path). In 1998 he participated in the Italian project Triboh, along with the singer Maria Pia De Vito and pianist Rita Marcotulli. The CD Triboh for the Italian label Polosud arose. In the same year he founded the Armenian Navy Band, occurs with to this day.

In 2000, Serj Tankian saw Artos appearance at the ' Armenian Music Awards in Los Angeles and took him to the recordings of the published in the following year the album Toxicity of Serjs band System of a Down, among other things dedicated to him a bonus track. Two years later, in 2003, the two founded the common bond Serart that Serjical Strike runs on Serjs label, and released the first and so far only album of the same name (as of July 2008).

His album Every Day is a New Life originated with saxophonist Paul Winter, in his Earth Band, he played for several years, and other U.S. musicians from this context. Aile Muhabbeti (tr. " family love") originated in Turkey as a film soundtrack, interpreted and composed by Tuncboyaciyan with various Armenian and Turkish musicians. He dedicated his Anatolian fans the album Türkçe sözlü Hafif Anadolu Müziği (tr. "Turkish -speaking Anatolian light music "). This album, recorded in the winter of 2002 /03 was published in 2005 in Turkey.

In February 2004, he played in Yerevan a new solo album Artostan with songs from his solo concerts. 2005 CD Love Is Not In Your Mind appeared as a duo project with pianist Vahagn Hayrapetyan the Armenian Navy Band, which he dedicated to his mother.

2008 helped Tuncboyaciyan the famous Turkish pop singer Sezen Aksu on her album Deniz Yildizi.
