Artur Sanhá

António Artur Sanhá (* 1965? ) Was from 28 September 2003 to 10 May 2004, Prime Minister of Guinea- Bissau.

Political career

Sanhá belongs to the Partido para a Renovação Social ( PRS) of former president Kumba IALA. After Ialás election victory in the presidential election in 2000 he was Minister of the Interior in February. In August 2001 he was dismissed from office after it has been months earlier traded as a possible prime minister. IALA not justified the decision, but it was seen a connection with the murder of a woman alleged to have had a relationship with the Sanhá. A case against him was discontinued for lack of evidence

After the fall Ialás by a military coup on 28 September 2003 he was Prime Minister under the interim president Henrique Pereira Rosa. Sanhás appointment was controversial at first, since he was also Secretary General of Ialás party PRS. Most political parties were against him, the junta of Veríssimo Correia Seabra, who ruled the country since September 14, prevailed on this issue.
