The Arys (Russian Арыс, Арысь ) is a right tributary of the Syr Darya in the Kazakhstan South Kazakhstan Province.

The Arys rises in the Talas Alatau. From there it flows in a predominantly westerly direction through a desert-like plain between the Qaratau the north and the Talas Alatau to the south. He takes on the tributaries Aksu, Maschat and Badam from left, as well as Boraldai from the right. In the same city Arys it turns northwest and flows after 378 km on the right side in the Syr Darya. The Arys drains an area of ​​14,900 km ². At Arys the flow has a central outlet ( MQ ) of 46,6 m³ / s. In April, the Arys out the greatest amount of water, in August the slightest. Part of the water is diverted for irrigation of Arys.
