Geographical Location
The city lies on the River in the territory of South Kazakhstan Arys 79 km north-west of the regional capital Shymkent. Arys is an important railway junction, the Orenburg - line connects with the Turksib - Tashkent.
History
The town was founded in 1900 as a settlement. 1956 got Arys granted town rights.
