Asansol ( Bengali: আসানসোল, Āsānasol ) is an industrial town in the district of Bardhaman in the west of the Indian state of West Bengal. It has about 560,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

Asansol is located on the Delhi- Howrah rail route and the Grand Trunk Road. The city's economy is dominated by the coal deposits of the surrounding territory, there are iron and steel industry ( wagon ), but also textile industry. The nearest major towns are Durgapur and Shantiniketan.

Asansol has evolved because of the good location to one of the most expensive rural places of India. Real estate prices are extremely high.

Asansol Asansol is the seat of the diocese.
