Aue-Schwarzenberg

The district of Aue -Schwarzenberg (until 1995 Westerzgebirgskreis ) was a county in the southwest of the Free State of Saxony. Since 2008 he forms the western part of the newly created Erzgebirgskreises.

Geography

The district of Aue -Schwarzenberg was in the west of the Saxon Erzgebirge. Its highest point was the 1019 meters high Auersberg between Eibenstock and Johann George Town. Largest river was the river Mulde, which passed through the county from south to north flowed through, while the town of Aue. The neighboring districts were in the north of the district of Zwickau country and the county Stollberg, in the east of the district of Annaberg, in the south of the Czech County Carlsbad ( Carlsbad Region ) and west of the Vogtland.

Economy

The district referred to himself as the "cradle of Forming " and was represented especially in the metalworking industry with a number of medium-sized companies. Ever since the first half of the 20th century, the region was engaged in tourism and attracted mainly in the winter months many visitors.

History

Much of the communities of the county owed ​​its existence to the gradual settlement of the Ore Mountains, which began in the second half of the 12th century. The cities of Schneeberg and Johanngeorgenstadt contrast, are much younger. The one originated, as well as some of its neighboring communities in the wake of the emerging mining industry, the other as a settlement of exiles from neighboring Bohemia.

After the Second World War in 1945, some cities and towns have been occupied for a few weeks neither the Soviet nor the American occupation forces (see " Free Republic of Schwarzenberg ").

The district was created as a result of the district reform on 1 August 1994 by merging the counties Aue and Schwarzenberg. He first called Westerzgebirgskreis and was renamed on 1 January 1995 in the district of Aue- Schwarzenberg.

By revisiting administrative reform in Saxony, the districts of Annaberg, Aue- Schwarzenberg, Erzgebirge District Middle and Stollberg combined to form the Erzgebirge District on August 1, 2008.
