August Arnold

August Arnold ( born September 12, 1898 in Werfen, † April 7, 1983 in Munich) was a German film director, film producer and film technology developer co-founder of Arnold & Richter Cine Technik ( ARRI ).

Life

As a student at the Old Grammar School, now the Oskar -von-Miller -Gymnasium in Munich, Arnold, son of kk Forester Dietrich Arnold, a cameraman for the Messter newsreel assists. From 1916 to 1917 studied electrical engineering at the Technical Arnold August Mittweida. At the age of nineteen years he founded in 1917 together with his colleague Robert Richter the ARRI ( Arnold & Richter ) and initially developed a photo printer, then film headlamps and mounting material. Arnold and Richter turned self-produced action films, including the legendary " Isar- Western " films, home movies, and later films with Karl Valentin. With Erich Kästner, which in 1932 was set at ARRI, they built the legendary Arriflex cameras.

August Arnold's grave is located on the North Cemetery in Munich ( grave No. 26-4-5 ).
