August von Clemm

August Ritter von Clemm ( born December 8, 1837 in Giessen, † October 28, 1910 in Haardt ) was a German businessman and politician.

Life and career

After studying chemistry Clemm in 1862 joined the founded by his brother Carl Clemm and Friedrich Engelhorn aniline factory Sunday, Engelhorn & Clemm in Mannheim. In 1865, he founded with his brother, Engelhorn, Seligmann Ladenburg, Ladenburg Leopold Friedrich tear and other BASF and took over the management of the aniline production in Ludwigshafen. After he had become in 1869 representatives of Engelhorn, he left in 1882, BASF in a dispute with his brother. After leaving Carl Clemms 1885 he returned back to the Supervisory Board, which he headed from 1897 to 1903.

From 1872 to 1898 was president of the Palatine Clemm retail and commercial banking and in 1886 he co-founded the Palatine mortgage lender. In addition, Clemm was until nationalization Chairman of the Board of the Palatine railways.

Policy

From 1883 to 1899 Clemm was a member of the National Liberals of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies. In 1893, he became its vice-president and from 1897 to 1899 he was standing in front of her as president.

Honors

1892 gave the city of Ludwigshafen Clemm an honorary citizen. In 1893 he was raised to the peerage personal and could now call the Knights of Clemm and was Imperial Council of the Crown of Bavaria.
