Augustin Abel Hector Léveillé

Augustin Abel Hector Léveillé (* 1863 in Le Mans, † 1918) was a French missionary, botanist and founding member of the Académie Internationale de Géographie Botanique. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " H.Lév. ".

Life

Hector Léveillé was born in 1863 in Le Mans. He studied medicine and received priestly ordination in 1887. He makes trips abroad for the society of the Paris Mission Seminary, including to India in 1887., Where he is a professor at the Collège de Pondicherry, Pondicherry.

On his return to France he founded in 1891 the journal Le Monde des plantes and is a founding member of the Académie internationale de Géographie Botanique. In 1911 his well-known work Iconographie you Genre Epilobium about the genus of fireweed appears.
