Augusto Pestana (politician)

Augusto Pestana ( May 22nd 1868 in Rio de Janeiro, † May 29, 1934 ) was a Brazilian engineer and politician.

Pestana studied from 1884 to 1887 at the Escola Politécnica, graduating with a diploma engineer. In 1889 he joined the Republican Party of Rio Grande do Sul.

Pestana was the first mayor of Ijuí (1912 ) and first CEO of the State Railway of Rio Grande do Sul (1920). In 1915 he was elected to represent the state of Rio Grande do Sul for the first time in the Congress of Brazil. 1918, 1928 and 1930, he was re-elected federal representatives.

The Brazilian city of Augusto Pestana is named after him.
