Augustus C. Baldwin

Augustus Carpenter Baldwin ( born December 24, 1817 in Syracuse, New York, † January 21, 1903 in Pontiac, Michigan ) was an American politician. Between 1863 and 1865 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Augustus Baldwin attended the public schools of his home. In 1837 he moved to the Oakland County in Michigan, where he first worked as a teacher. After studying law and its made ​​in 1842 admitted to the bar he began in Milford to work in his new profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In the years 1844-1846 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Michigan, which he became president in 1846. 1849 Baldwin moved to Pontiac. From 1853 to 1854 he was District Attorney in Oakland County. In 1860 he was a delegate part in two Democratic National Conventions, which were held in Charleston and Baltimore.

In the congressional elections of 1862 Baldwin was in the then newly created fifth electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1863. He then practiced again as a private attorney. Augustus Baldwin was also a member of the board of trustees of the state mental hospital for the eastern part of the State of Michigan. He died on January 21, 1903 in Pontiac, where he was also buried.
