The Autostrada A11 (Italian for, A11 ' ), also called Autostrada Firenze- Mare, is an Italian motorway in the middle of the country, that connects Florence to Pisa and the sea. It is 81.2 km long and toll road in its entire length. The motorway is completely in Tuscany. It is operated by the Italian motorway company Autostrade per l' Italia.

Course
The A11 is widened to four lanes in their entire history.
The highway begins near the airport Florence, where she first eastbound crossing with the A1. She then takes you along the plain of the River Arno, passing the towns of Prato and Pistoia, Lucca. Here the A11/A12 leads to Viareggio to the A12.
The highway ends after 80 kilometers north of Pisa, where it joins the A12.
State of development and future plans
The A11 is currently being widened to four lanes going from Florence to Pisa.
In the course of 2008 adopted the Convention between the operating company Autostrade per l' Italia and ANAS provide a set of investment in the existing highway network in Italy, modernization works were decided on the A11. Between Florence and Pistoia the highway will be expanded to six lanes on 26.8 kilometers ( three lanes in each direction), as well as between Pistoia and Montecatini to 11.4 km. These projects are currently in the planning phase.
History
The A11 is considered the second oldest Italian highways to the A8. It has already been built in the early 1930s under the fascist leadership in their entire length.
The construction took four years and lasted from 1928 until 1932. On August 8, 1933, the entire route was handed over to traffic.
Origin of the name
In addition to the official designation A11 motorway also received another name, Autostrada Firenze- Mare. The route connects Florence directly with the sea and the beaches of Tuscany. Therefore, the A11 is known by Florentines rather under that name.
