Aw Boon Haw

Aw Boon Haw ( Chinese胡文虎, Pinyin Hu Wénhǔ; * 1882 in Rangoon, Burma, † 1954 in Hong Kong ) was a Burmese- Chinese entrepreneurs.

Haw was born into a Hakka family of Yongding. He was in 1920 with his younger brother, Aw Boon Par founder of the pharmaceutical company Haw Par Healthcare in Singapore, whose first and best-known product is the cold ointment Tiger Balm. He also founded several newspapers in Malaysia and Hong Kong. As a philanthropist, he donated several parks, the most important of today's Haw Par Villa in Singapore, which was built in 1937 under the name "Tiger Balm Gardens ".

Haw died in 1954 during a voyage from Hong Kong to Boston on a postoperative myocardial infarction.
