Axel Otto Mörner

Axel Mörner Otto Graf ( born July 11, 1774 Oby, Sweden, † October 20, 1852 in Eksjö, Sweden) was a Swedish painter, General and Minister of Defense.

Life

Count Mörner came from the Swedish branch of the German noble family Mörner. He was honored in 1797 by the Stockholm Academy with the Première Medal for Painting. In 1799 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Heinrich Friedrich and Johann Baptist von Lampi Füger. In 1801 he was admitted as a member of the painters and sculptors Academy in Stockholm, which made ​​him an honorary member in 1831. Besides painting, he tried his hand as a self-taught in the mezzotint.

The military career began in 1810 Mörners with his appointment as adjutant of King Karl XIII. from Sweden. In 1818 he was major general of cavalry. He rose to become Lieutenant-General (1837 ) and was from 1840 to 1843 towards the end of the reign of King Karl XIV Johan ( Bernadotte ) Swedish Minister of War.

His nephew Hjalmar Count Mörner (1794-1837) was as officer and painter; he made himself known as a draftsman and etcher.
