Babice (Prachatice District)

Babice ( German Bowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is situated 18 kilometers northwest of the center of České Budějovice and belongs to Okres Prachatice.

Geography

Babice is located north of Blanský in the valley of the creek Lužický.

Neighboring towns are Hlodačky in the north, Mahouš in the northeast, and Zvěřetice Sedlovice in the east, and Radošovice Strýčice the southeast, Chvalovice in the south, southeast, and Dolni Chrášťany in Lusatia and Netolice in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1259 under the name Vávice.

Since 1880 the place name Babice used. The village was after the abolition of patrimonial to the district Prachatice, came in the 20th century to the district Český Krumlov and 1950 for Okres Vodňany. After its dissolution in 1960 Babice came back to Okres Prachatice and was incorporated simultaneously Chvalovice. On April 30, 1976, the Vice My Dung Babice took place after Němčice. Since November 24, 1990 Babice again forms a community.

The district Zvěřetice consists largely of buildings in the Bohemian folk Baroque and was declared a village conservation area.

The municipality consists of the villages Babice Babice ( Bowitz ) and Zvěřetice ( Swiretitz ).
