Baena

Baena is a Spanish town in the Andalusian province of Córdoba. The city is located in the comarca Guadajoz - Campiña Este and is the seat of the judicial district Baena, to which the municipalities Luque, Valenzuela, the district Albendín and seven farmsteads belong.

Location

Baena is located 62 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital of Cordoba and can be reached from this on the national road N- 432. 105 km southeast of Baena is Granada and 67 kilometers east of Jaén.

The river Guadajoz flows through the territory of the commune across from the southeast to the west and the tributary crosses the Marbella city center. The river is dry most of the year. The municipal area the highest elevations are the mountains Torre Morana ( 688 meters), Almoguera ( 758 meters) and Serrezuela ( 799 meters)

Etymology

It is named Baius, a Roman landowner. The name was among the Moors for Arab Bayyana. The municipal area of Baena, there are numerous Ibero - Roman remains, such as Torreparedones and Izcar as well as on the hill Minguillar.
