Bai Konte

Alhaji Bai Konte (* 1920 in Brikama, Gambia, † 1983 ) is a musician and Jeli from Gambia. He played on the West African instrument kora, a 21 -string bridge harp. He was the first musician to live in 1973 played this instrument in the United States at the Newport Jazz Festival.

Two of his four sons Dembo Konte and Sherrifo Konteh are also known for their kora music. Bai Kontes grandfather Ndaba Konteh moved at that time from the Kankaba region of Mali to Brikama.
