The Baltic runs in Warnemünde (September 2010)

The Baltic is a sea-going salvage tug, which is operated by the Fairplay Towing Steamship Company Richard Borchard GmbH. The Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development ( BMVBS) has chartered the tractor, initially for ten years in the framework of the Working Group on Coastal Protection to protect the German Baltic coast. The Baltic has ice class E2 ( average ice conditions with ice thickness to 0.6 m).

History

Construction and commissioning

The Baltic emerged as hull number V077 at the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon SA in Vigo and based on the design of the Spanish rescue tug Luz de Mar and Miguel de Cervantes. She ran on 29 April 2010 from the pile and was completed on August 26, 2010.

Use

After the Baltic had already arrived on 30 August 2010 at their barracks Warnemünde, signed by the Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Transport, Anak Ferlemann, September 24, 2010, the charter party for the use of the tractor at the German Notschleppkonzepts. In order for the new building replaced the previous rescue tug Fairplay 26. The Baltic secures the busy Seeabschnitt the Kadet Trench in Warnemünde. The crew consists of eight men ( captain, a deck officer, two technical officers, two ship's mechanic and two sailors ).

A few days after putting the Baltic came when the fire Lisco Gloria ferry on 8 October 2010 before Fehmarn used.

Technology

Machinery and drive

The drive system of the Baltic consists of the two main engines of the type General Electric 16V250MDB3 that act on the two Schottel - pitch propellers via reduction gear and shafting. The motors are 16-cylinder diesel engines, which develop at a nominal speed of 1.050/min a power of 4,239 kW (approx. 5,765 hp). The speed of the current in Kort nozzles pitch propeller is 170/min. To improve the maneuverability of the tractor, are installed in the front and rear in each case two transverse thrusters.

For electricity on board two main generators (500 kVA ) and a backup generator (150 kVA) are in addition to the two shaft generators with an electrical output of 1,500 kVA installed.

Equipment

With a bollard pull of 127 tonnes ( 1,250 kN) was the Baltic at putting the most powerful tugs in the Baltic Sea. For towing tasks it is equipped with two hydraulic jacks; the towing wire has a diameter of 62 mm and a length of 500 m. To extinguish fire, two fire monitors at a rate of 1,200 m³ / h.
