Bang Phae District

Amphoe Bang Phae ( Thai: อำเภอ บางแพ ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the province ( Changwat ) Ratchaburi, Central Thailand. It lies in the east of the province.

Geography

Neighbouring districts (from the south clockwise): Amphoe Damnoen Saduak and the Photharam Ratchaburi Province, Amphoe Mueang Nakhon Pathom and the Sam Phran of Nakhon Pathom Province and Amphoe Ban Phaeo Samut Sakhon Province.

History

The district was created in 1914 from 17 Tambon of Amphoe Ban Pong, Photharam and Damnoen Saduak initially set up as King Amphoe. In 1917, he got the full Amphoe status. The administration building was at that time in a pavilion of Wat Pho in Tambon Hua Hua Pho. Therefore, the district first got the name Hua Pho. As in 1918 on the east bank of the Bang Phae canal ( Khlong Bang Phae ) had opened a permanent administration building in Tambon Bang Phae, the district was named Bang Phae.

Archeology

  • Khok Phlap - archaeological place between the rivers Chao Phraya and Mae Klong.

Management

Amphoe Bang Phae is divided into seven communities ( tambon), which in turn in 65 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

There are two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Bang Phae ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บางแพ ) consists of the whole tambon Bang Phae and Wang Yen
  • Pho Hak ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล โพ หัก ) consists of all the same Tambon Pho Hak.

There are four " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
